Tas - Wayatinah Campground

After leaving Strahan we decided that the next night would be a free camp but the one we planned to stay at at Nive River rest area is no longer overnight camping so we drove on.

We found a place to stay 24klms west of Ouse. The Wayatinah Campground is beside a lake where there is trout fishing and fires are permitted.. There is a tennis court and a swimming pool. The toilet block was very basic but it was only $20.00 per night and many of the sites were divided by hedges.

Tas - Evandale

At Evandale we stayed at the cricket and football ground near the centre of town. We stayed here during the penny farthing races so the grounds were opened especially for us. There is two toilets blocks and a set of male and female showers so we were well catered for. The area that we camped had a row of trees which added some protection from the wind. The fee was $10.00 per night and within walking distance to town.

Tas - Bay of Fires

This is a very special place to stay. There are five sea-side camping areas in the Bay of Fires Conservation Area each with their own toilet and they are all free.

We towed the caravan in, wound our way around bushes and trees on sand packed and gravel tracks and found a spot overlooking the ocean at Swimcart Beach Campground. We had a fire each night, swam and loved every minute at this beautiful spot.

Tas - Coles Bay

The Iluka Holiday Centre is on the Esplande at Coles Bay, and it is only a short drive to the entrance of Freycinet National Park.
There are 30 powered sites and 15 tent sites. Our site was on the hillside so we had a lovely view of the mountains. There is a toilet block of four toilets, two male and two female, which is open all the time, but the main toilet block requires a key. The park looks like it needs some TLC. It is within walking distance of the water, the tavern, bakery and a couple of shops. Handy location.
The Coles Bay and Freycinet area is beautiful.

Powered site was $30.00 per night.

Tas - Nubeena (near Port Arthur)

Nubeena is about 10klms from Port Arthur and is a beautiful caravan park to stay in. All the sites are grassed, some divided with hedges, good clean amenities and a fantastic camp kitchen and barbeque area. There is also a kiosk and a play ground for the children.

The park is on the beachfront so you can walk down any time and stroll along the bay with its’ soft white sand and if you are brave have a swim in the clear blue water.

Fees were $30.00 a night.

Tas - Barilla (near Hobart)

This caravan park is just off the main A9 freeway on the road to Richmond. The sites were large and divided by hedges and gravel ground. The toilets were large concrete water tanks that had been converted to bathrooms with a shower, toilet and hand basin. Rather roomy and a novel idea, but as there were only four there was often a waiting line. There was another amenities block as well further into the park.
There was a fantastic new 19 hole mini golf course and a cafe serving pizza and fish and chips. We didn’t try any but they certainly smelt and looked good. There is also a hot plunge pool that you can rent for $20.00 for two people per hour. (We didn’t try that either!)

The park was a handy location, just outside of Hobart and in the country.

Tas - Bruny Island

We camped at the Bruny Island Neck camping ground across the road from the beach. There were two toilets, numerous spots between trees and on the sand. The park has self registration at $10.00 per night but the ranger did come around to check that everybody had paid.
Fires are permitted so each day we collected fire wood and had a beautiful fire each night. The weather was cold and wet so the fire was very welcomed.
There are two caravan parks at Adventure Bay but we really enjoyed staying in the National Park by the beach and away from the town.

Tas - Port Huon

Shipwrights Point is a large treed and grassed area behind the Yacht club at port Huon. We drove in, parked the van, got settled, put the chairs out ready for our evening drink and a dozen yachts began to assemble in front of the club house. After about half an hour the race began and we enjoyed watching them tacking back and forth across the river.

There are two female and two male toilets, a covered barbeque and picnic area and a play ground for children. You are also permitted to have fires.
The fee is $8.00 per night. This money goes to the running of the yacht club and we were more than happy to pay to have such a fantastic view.
Well worth the stop.

Tas - Boat Harbour

This is a picture perfect bay with crystal clear water and white sands.
There is a free camp area on the grass to the left of the parking lot. We stayed here one night and it was beautiful listening to the waves rolling in and out. The toilets are closed from 11:00p.m until 7:00a.m. The disabled toilets, however, remained open all night.
The locals came down to welcome us and handed us some brochures for the area.
The restaurant is beside the beach and we were looking forward to having breakfast there but they decided not to open until lunch the day we were there. Disappointing.

Tas - Devonport

We arrived in Tasmania on board The Spirit of Tasmania, and drove a short distance to the Discovery Holiday Park. The park is on the coast and you can stand on the foreshore and watch the Spirit arrive and depart.

The toilet block is new, four ladies toilets and four showers (same with the men). The area is very open and we couldn’t put our awning out while we were here because it was very windy every day.

NSW - Brunswick Heads

This is a very quiet park on the banks of the Brunswick River. Most of the park is permanents but there are still a lot of powered and unpowered sites. Amenities are good with two blocks, one old and one new. Just a stroll to the beach and town. Very handy location.
This park is a Top Tourist member.

Qld - Scarbourough

What a find. This park is at the northern tip of the Redclffe Peninsula. There are very few trees but most of the sites are big drive through with concrete slabs. The amenities block is brand new and tastefully done. A pleasure to use. There is a restaurant adjacent to the park, has great coffee, cakes and is open for breakfast and lunch. We often popped in for a coffee. The park is located next to the harbour which makes for a nice stroll.
We can highly recommend this park.

Qld - Noosa

This caravan park is in the suburbs and about a five minute drive into the heart of Noosa. The bike and walking trails make it easy to get around Tewantin - to the shops and the harbour. The park has a lovely heated pool, amenities old but clean.

Qld - Hervey Bay

This council owned park is on the beach at Torquay, one of the beachside suburbs at Hervey Bay. Shops and restaurants are across the road and within an easy stroll.
There are two amenities blocks, very well maintained. Most caravan sites are with a slab, a few shade trees and grass.
The sites were $39.00 per night which was school holiday fees.
Very pleasant stay.

Qld - Bundaberg - Bargara

While visiting this area we stayed at the beautiful seaside town of Bargara, about a ten minute drive from downtown Bundaberg.

The caravan park is across the road from the surf club and about 1 klm from the centre of Bargara. Powered sites are $31.00 per night.
The large park of 16 acres has two large amenities blocks, many concrete slabs, trees and lovely grass everywhere. The park is beside the tennis courts, on the edge of the nature walk / bike trail and oval. Each morning we would ride the 12 klm trail and in the afternoons we would swim at the beach. In between we’d walk into town and have coffee.

Qld - Cape Hillsborough Nature Resort

About 40 klms north of Mackay is the Cape Hillsborough National Park. The caravan park has powered and unpowered sites and cabins and is right on the beach. The swimming pool is a beautiful resort style and the games room has TV and a pool table. There is also a restaurant.
The walks around the resort are beautiful and the scenery of the beach and local islands are stunning.
The sites are large and only $28.00 per night.

Qld - Sapphire

We stayed at a delightful caravan park in the hills behind Sapphire. The park is beautifully maintained with a pool, animal feeding area, walks, camp kitchen, and outdoor lounge. Each site is very private with trees and bushes dividing each site which are carved out of the hillside. The amenities are extremely clean with white tiled walls and floors.

We chose this park because it was within walking distance to the natural thermal springs. The sites were so narrow that we could not put our awning out to its full extent. We felt like we were packed in like sardines.
We would not recommend this park.

Red Gum Tourist Park

This is a lovely park with grassed areas, large sites, swimming pool and old but clean amenities block. It is only a 10 minute walk to town.

Nitmiluk National Park Campground

We spent three nights in Katherine and then moved out to the National Park. There are only twenty powered sites and they do not take reservations so it is a matter of first come, first served. We were lucky enough to get a powered site and loved every minute of our four day stay here.
Most of the powered site area is dirt ground with lots of shade trees and two well appointed amenity areas. The best part about the campground is the fantastic swimming pool and restaurant area. Every night while we were here there was live music at the pool area and we felt like we were staying at a resort and only paying $33.00 a night.

NT - Darwin

Shady Glen Tourist Park

We stayed at this park because they would store our van while we made a couple of trips. This park has two good amenities blocks, a nice swimming pool, shady, large sites, but is very dusty as none of the internal roads are sealed. We were forever wiping dust from the inside of the van.

NT - Litchfield National Park

We spent three wonderful days at Litchfield and while here we stayed at the Litchfield Safari Camp which is close to the western entrance of the park.

Everything was very basic, including the amenities block. There was a small round above ground pool to stand in to cool off. Some of the sites had fire pits and wood was provided. Even though it was basic it had a nice relaxed atmosphere, power, trees and grass.
